Peak Shaper won the smartgrid center's innovation award for 2023. The award was presented at the Smartgrid conference in Oslo on 27 September.

- We are incredibly proud to receive the Innovation Award 2023! This recognizes not only our skilled team, but also the importance of flexible solutions in the face of the green shift, says Peak Shaper manager, Kine Ryberg Strupstad.

Peak Shaper is Norway's first commercial battery service for large-scale batteries. The service makes use of the variations in the power grid, lowers consumption peaks and contributes to the use of the existing infrastructure becoming more efficient. In this way, new consumption can be connected more quickly.

- Network development takes time and is expensive. By moving energy in time and smoothing power peaks, power limitations and the load on the grid are reduced, and new consumption can be connected more quickly, explains Kine.

- The project is innovative, with technology that is little used in the Norwegian power grid today. In addition, it has demonstrated its usefulness in practice, with good results, said jury leader Sonja Berlijn during the award ceremony.

The battery service has been tested in a pilot project in Lierne in collaboration with Tensio.
The results from the testing show that batteries have a good effect on the voltage problems in the area, in addition the service can reduce the cost of network loss for Tensio in the area by 22%. The entire report can be read on Peak Shaper's website.

- From this pilot we have collected power data from the power grid, usage data, load flow, battery measurements and more so that we can optimize the future offer to the customer, explains Strupstad.

- We have shown that we can deliver very good results. But, we are only at the starting block - it is now that it starts and we are ready for the next step, concludes Torstein Sole-Gärtner, director of Eidsiva Vekst.
